Shane Gray sealed his third Listed win in a week after Liberty Lane trumped his rivals in the James Seymour Stakes.

The 30-year-old rider was stepping in for Clifford Lee, who sustained neck injuries in a bike accident on Sunday, and made good use of his first ride on the consistent five-year-old, with the gelding getting the measure of favourite Gethin at the halfway stage before pulling clear by two and a quarter lengths.

"I didn't do a whole lot really," Gray told Racing TV. "He jumped, got himself into a lovely rhythm and hit the line really well. He's a really honest and genuine horse.

"They didn't go that quickly and I wanted him rolling before the Dip, and he met the rising ground and really relished going up the hill. He loves it here and he loves the ground, so he's very straightforward."

The success was the third major win for Gray in the last seven days, with the jockey also teaming up with Karl Burke for Listed success at Doncaster on Lam Yai last Saturday before striking with Ice Max at Nottingham on Wednesday.

Plaudits for Pintara

Ralph Beckett and Hector Crouch sealed successive wins in the Listed Montrose Fillies' Stakes with Pintara.

The daughter of Pinatubo emulated stablemate Smoken with a three-and-a-half-length victory after a successful debut at Salisbury on her previous start in August.

It was the biggest winning margin in the mile race since the four-length victory of subsequent Musidora second Fireglow in 2015.
