Dylan Browne McMonagle means business in the jockeys' title race. With defending champion Colin Keane in action at Newbury, the 22-year-old made hay on home soil with an 876-1 four-timer that moved him back to the top of the table.

The highlight of the quartet was Leinster in the Group 3 Comer Group International Irish St. Leger Trial Stakes as Browne McMonagle timed his challenge to perfection and skipped four and a quarter lengths clear at the line. It was emphatic from the 6-1 shot, with Melbourne Cup-bound Absurde only third and the odds-on favourite Puppet Master last of the four having been eased by Ryan Moore before the final furlong.

Browne McMonagle hailed it a "great day". He has ridden four winners on a card before, but this was an important four-timer that puts him two clear of Keane once more.

On Leinster, he said: "We went a steady speed and he was a bit in my hands all the way. I'd love if they'd gone on a stride quicker but I just needed to get him to relax today because we were riding him forward and he was just doing too much the last couple of days.

"Today, coming back in trip and up in grade, I thought there would have been more of an even gallop on, but we did go slow again. I was comfortable down past the two pole and I just let him flow. He stays this trip well and he's a good horse.”

Joseph O'Brien also trained the first of Brown McMonagle's quartet with the impressive newcomer Mushaffar in the opening 6f maiden at odds of 5-1.

The winning rider said: "He did things really well and I had plenty of pace to target. He quickened up nicely inside the final furlong and hit the line well. It was a nice performance and hopefully he'll step forward plenty."

The Listed Mitsubishi Electric Irish EBF Curragh Stakes also went to Browne McMonagle on the Adrian Murray-trained Ipanema Queen.

Murray said of the 6-5 favourite: "She's a fast filly and I'd say she'll go for the Flying Childers at Doncaster. She'll probably go to the Breeders' Cup at the backend of the year."

The same combination teamed up to win the 6f handicap with the 17-2 chance Queen Of Mougins and made it four winners over the last two Saturdays at the Curragh for Murray.

Across the card double for Burns

Shane Lyons, assistant to brother Ger, heaped praise upon Nicola Burns for her front-running ride on Sir Alfie in the 6f nursery.

Burns is making a real name for herself and she zoomed down the road to Tramore to ride the opening winner there, too, on the Paddy Twomey-trained Ledecky. Not a bad day at the office for anyone, never mind a 7lb claimer.

Lyons said: "Fair play to Nicola, for a 7lb claimer she got her fractions right. He's very straightforward but it's a hard thing to do for an apprentice.

"He's very honest and I'm delighted for Austin [Whelan, owner]. He does love that ground. He was rated 85 in a 0-80, but with her 7lb claim it was a no-brainer."
