Debutant Blazing Tunder the star on mixed day of fortunes for Candy

It was a mixed day for trainer Henry Candy. He had three runners on the card, and although he won a division of the 1m½f juvenile maiden with the promising debutant Blazing Tunder, his second runner Capton was demoted to second after passing the post first in the 1m2f handicap and African Friend, who was sent off the 9-2 favourite for the 5f handicap lost all chance with a slow start.
Candy is not a trainer renowned for first-time out juvenile winners, in fact he has had just four from 88 in recent years, but the market suggested Blazing Tunder was well fancied as he was backed into 9-4 from an early 100-30.
The money was spot on for the son of Casamento jumped smartly out of the stalls under Dane O'Neill and made most of the running. Although strongly pressed by the imposing Astrologist in the closing stages he held on well to win by half a length.
