'A reproduction of his American Affair form would make him the one to beat' - expert analysis and trainer quotes for the Windsor feature

Five of the seven runners are course-and-distance winners, including Elmonjed, successful in the final of this series last August.

The son of Blue Point progressed to land a valuable handicap at York’s Ebor meeting on his next start, and strongly appealed at the time as the type to make further improvement as a four-year-old.

Although yet to sparkle in two runs this year, it might be premature to assume he is now firmly in the handicapper’s grip on a mark 5lb higher than when he scored on the Knavesmire.

Indian Run, who contested the 2023 Dewhurst won by City Of Troy, finished half a length in front of Elmonjed when the pair occupied third and fourth places behind Aramram – subsequently sixth in the Wokingham – at Newbury last month. They renew rivalry on the same terms, and there shouldn’t be much between them once again.

Toca Madera returns after a 42-day break, having not quite run up to his best when fourth to Regal Envoy over five furlongs at this track in mid-May.

He had performed close to a career-best just four days earlier when a length and three-quarters third to subsequent Group 1 King Charles III winner American Affair at York, and a reproduction of that form over this furlong-longer trip would arguably make him the one to beat.

Jm Jungle, who split American Affair and Toca Madera, has since landed the Dash at Epsom and was narrowly denied by Squealer at York on Saturday.

Ground and weather

The ground was described officially as good to firm on Sunday and clerk of the course Charlie Rees said: "We're putting on 8mm of water and we'll have a look in the morning to see if we need to do any on the day of racing. It's forecast to be around 33C, but all the hot weather precautions are in place and the beauty of evening racing is the sun and temperatures are starting to go down."

What they say

William Haggas, trainer of Elmonjed
He's in very good form; he missed the Wokingham by one, sadly. He's drawn seven of seven but I hope he's got a chance.

Brian Meehan, trainer of Toca Madera
He missed the cut for the Wokingham by two, which was disappointing because we thought he was in tip-top shape. He's won at Windsor so we're feeling pretty good.

Steve Brown, assistant to Julie Camacho, trainer of Indian Run
He didn't quite get in the Wokingham; he's fit and ready and we wanted to find the first suitable opportunity. He has southern-based owners, it's a small field and it makes sense. We're learning more about him and we think there's a bit more there.

Richard Hughes, trainer of Havanagreattime
He has a great chance. We're taking 7lb off again, Donagh Murphy did nothing wrong last time, and he has a reasonably good draw.

Harry Charlton, trainer of Grand Karat
It's his first time at six furlongs. He was unlucky over seven at Newbury, where they went no pace, and we feel he shows enough speed to try six. It will be interesting to see how he gets on and it's not too big a field for a fair prize.

Rod Millman, trainer of Amazonian Dream
It's good the weights have gone up and he's in the handicap, but he's paying the penalty for winning four times last year and he's running against horses who are improving and going up the handicap.
