And so my losing streak in the December Gold Cup continues. Unless I am mistaken, it stretches back to the 1990s – not that I’ve bet in it every year. I'm not (quite) that bad a punter.
I clearly remember backing Addington Boy, winner of the 1996 running, and I still rue to this day the fact I didn't back Dublin Flyer in the race two years earlier, probably my favourite winner of the race.
Dublin Flyer was a tremendously game and honest front-running chaser, in the mould of Frodon, the 2016 and 2018 winner, who displayed a personality as strong as his trainer, Captain Tim Forster.
