Flat racing at Aintree would make sense - but what would that mean for another northern Jockey Club track?

Aintree has been a hotter topic than usual at this time of year after the Jockey Club revealed plans for heavy investment in one of its flagship tracks.

The home of the Grand National used to go into hibernation for a few months until two years ago, when a Grade 1 fixture on Boxing Day was added to its schedule, but the vast majority of discussion has not been about the Formby Novices' Hurdle, rather its standing in the Jockey Club's masterplan.

That is because, while Kempton's future is uncertain, the organisation is set to pump "tens of millions of pounds" into Aintree and its other biggest racecourse, Cheltenham, with the intention to make them among the best sporting experiences around.
