Bookmakers will have breathed a sigh of relief after the budget - but it may only be a temporary reprieve

The reaction of the City gave rather a large clue as to how last week's budget had gone for the gambling industry.
Shares in Flutter Entertainment, Entain and Evoke all bounced on Wednesday after chancellor of the exchequer Rachel Reeves left gambling duties untouched in her statement.
They were bouncing back having lost £3 billion in value earlier in the month following reports the Treasury was considering proposals put forward by a couple of think tanks that some gambling duties should be at least doubled.
