No jump racing until at least Thursday as low temperatures continue to bite

As sub-zero temperatures continue to cause disruption across Britain, the only racing that took place on Monday was on the all-weather at Lingfield and Wolverhampton and there will be no jump racing in Britain until at least Thursday.

Tuesday's meetings at Wincanton and Catterick have already fallen victim to the weather, while Newbury's card on Wednesday was called off due to frozen ground after officials brought forward a planned inspection by 24 hours.

All-weather racing will keep the show on the road on Tuesday, with Wolverhampton and Southwell hoping to stage racing on their Tapeta surfaces, although the latter venue will need to pass a 7.30am inspection.

Southwell clerk of the course David Attwood said: "We're totally raceable on Monday and temperatures are set to go down to -3C overnight, but we can't foresee any major issues."

Exeter is due to host a jumps meeting on Thursday, but clerk of the course Daniel Cooper admitted "the odds aren't great", with an inspection scheduled for midday on Tuesday.

Speaking on Monday, Cooper said: "We've had quite a poor day with regard to the weather. It hasn't risen above zero and we have very thick fog and are currently unraceable.

"On Tuesday we do have a change in the forecast and we may start seeing the track defrost, but we're still committed to an inspection at 12pm. The odds aren't great, but we're giving ourselves a shot.

"We have a window to check and we're going to allow that to happen, but I do have some concerns over the snow and we'll monitor that on Tuesday and into Wednesday. It's another challenging one."

Ffos Las is also due to stage jumping action on Thursday and reported no frost in the ground yesterday, with temperatures forecast to slowly rise through the week.

However, Uttoexeter, which races on Friday, faces an uphill battle to get the all clear.

Clerk of the course Richard Fothergill said: "We're going to need a bit of luck because the forecast isn't very kind, and we haven't got a lot of time to get the track ready.

"If we were racing today, we would have had to abandon because it is still frozen. We had a good day on Sunday and we could do with a few more days like that this week. We'll keep assessing it over the next few days, but we might have to make an early decision.

"We'll keep everyone informed and we want to be as fair as possible. We appreciate people have to travel and that they'd need to make alternative arrangements if necessary."
