Trueshan was declared to take on Stradivarius in the Weatherbys Hamilton Lonsdale Cup (2.25) at York on Friday, but trainer Alan King warned the star stayer would miss the race if the ground dried up too much.

The five-year-old, winner of the Goodwood Cup, was declared on good ground but his two Group wins came on soft. A final decision on whether he will run may not be made until the morning of the race.

"He's doing well and did his last bit of work this morning," said King on Wednesday. "It's all gone pretty smoothly since Goodwood but we'll have to wait and see what the ground does before Friday.

"We're declared on good but if it dries up too much he'd probably be taken out. I didn't want to be stupid and not declare as if the ground was suitable we'd be kicking ourselves. We'll see what the jockeys say and what the ground does over the next 48 hours.

"It looks like it should be an exciting race but we'll just have to wait and see. A decision probably won't be made until Friday morning."

Among the notable absentees for the race were Fujaira Prince, who holds an entry in the Sky Bet Ebor, Red Verdon and Princess Zoe.

There were 15 declarations for the Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes (3.35) and the field is headed by Breeders' Cup winner Golden Pal, who is set to take on recent Goodwood winner Suesa.

Armor, winner of the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes, was not among the 11 declarations for the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Gimcrack Stakes (3.00), but Richard Hannon will still be represented by Lusail.
