Jockey David Probert continued his red-hot winning streak with a treble, following his five-timer at the Welsh course on Wednesday evening.

Probert, unsurprisingly, said he was "loving every minute" of life in the saddle after his five-timer and he picked up where he left off aboard odds-on favourite Hey Teacher in the 1m4f novice, the first of his seven rides on the card.

After their nine-and-a-half-length success, Probert's two-day winning streak, which totalled six races, came to an end, but he quickly picked up the winning thread again in the 7½f nursery on Great Havana before signing off in style courtesy of L'Operateur in the7½f maiden handicap.

Joint-champion apprentice in 2008 with William Buick, he has partnered eight winners from his last 12 rides and will be hoping to continue his blistering form at Newbury on Friday, when he has six rides, before a trip to France on Saturday to team up with Tasman Bay for trainer Sir Mark Todd in the Group 2 Prix Guillaume d'Ornano at Deauville (3.25).

Before his exploits on Thursday, Probert said he was still beaming from the previous night's haul, which quickly followed on from bringing up a century of winners for the year.

On the verge of his most prolific campaign - he rode 112 winners in 2019 - he said: "Wednesday was a great evening, I never would have thought I'd have five winners ever. I knew I had some good chances turning up – three of them looked great, but to win five was just unbelievable.

"When the first three won I was thinking about four as the next looked to have a big chance, but you never know what's going to happen in racing. Luckily, everything fell into place. To do it at my home track was nice. It's a lovely course and they do a good job."

Asked how he celebrated, Probert added: "It's hard to celebrate as there's so much racing on. I'll have to do it on a day off. I enjoyed doing it and I love going racing, so it's very rewarding when things pay off. I've had a good year and I'm enjoying every minute of it."
