Options open for Saxon Warrior but Hazapour will be dropped in trip

There had been hopes 2,000 Guineas winner Saxon Warrior was a live Triple Crown contender, but despite starting odds-on he could get only within four and a half lengths of Masar on his first attempt at a mile and a half.

Speaking at Chantilly on Sunday, Saxon Warrior's trainer Aidan O'Brien said: "All the horses we ran in the Derby seem to be fine. Saxon Warrior had never run on that type of track before and was very green and babyish in himself. We hope the experience will have done him good and that he'll have learned from it.

"He was drawn on the rail so he didn't really have any choice to be in any other position. I couldn't say he didn't stay as he wasn't stopping all the way up the straight."

O'Brien stressed that no plans had been made for the son of Deep Impact, but added the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby and Coral-Eclipse are among the races that will be considered for his next run.

However, Dermot Weld revealed on Sunday that Hazapour would drop back in distance.

Frankie Dettori, who rode the colt at Epsom, reported that the son of Shamardal failed to get the trip and, agreeing with that assessment, Weld said: "Hazapour didn't stay. He ran a very good race and got an excellent ride. We had a crack at the race and I'm proud of the colt.

"Hazapour has a lot of pace and we'll see how he comes out of the race before making plans. He won't be going for the Irish Derby and we'll be looking at races over a mile and a quarter."
