'It’ll be a cracking race' - Magical Lagoon set for Yorkshire Oaks showdown
Magical Lagoon conquered the Curragh last Saturday with victory in the Irish Oaks and trainer Jessica Harrington has confirmed her star will now be aimed at the Darley Yorkshire Oaks at next month's Ebor festival.
The daughter of Galileo took her career to the next level with victory in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot last month and backed up that success with an even gutsier display to land her first Group 1.
Harrington said: “It’s been an absolutely brilliant week. Magical Lagoon has come out of the Curragh well and is going to go to York.”
Magical Lagoon provided Harrington with her first Irish Oaks success and the trainer will be hoping to secure another first in the Yorkshire Oaks on August 18, when her potential challengers include the Epsom winner and runner-up, Tuesday and Emily Upjohn, and La Petite Coco.
Prix Saint-Alary winner Above The Curve, four-time Group 1 winner Alpinista and Lancashire Oaks victor Free Wind are others who hold entries for the 1m4f event.
Harrington said: “It’ll be a cracking race and all the best fillies are going to turn up, but we’re excited to be going there."
Magical Lagoon is currently a 6-1 shot with Paddy Power for the mile and a half contest, while Emily Upjohn is the early market leader at 4-5.

Paddy Power: 4-5 Emily Upjohn, 7-2 Tuesday, 5 Free Wind, 6 Alpinista, Magical Lagoon, 8 La Petite Coco, Sea Silk Road, 10 Above The Curve, 12 Poptronic, 14 bar
