Curragh chief 'open to moving betting ring but it's not straightforward' as course responds to feedback

Brian Kavanagh says he has an open mind regarding repositioning the Curragh betting ring, but the track's chief executive added that moving the layers would be a major operation and have big implications on other parts of the course.

The Curragh came in for criticism from Anthony Kaminskas of AK Bets over the weekend, with the on-course layer critical of the crowd and the trade at the three-day Irish Guineas festival. However, Kavanagh revealed on-course betting figures were up on last year for two of the three days, Friday being the exception, and said he is not opposed to thinking about a new home for the betting ring.

"The issue of the location of the bookmakers' ring is constantly under consideration," he said. "Something like that is a major move and has implications for other parts of the racecourse. That's not to say it won't form part of any future plans around the Curragh, but it's not something we've discussed with bookmakers. It's something we're open to looking at but it's not straightforward."
