The Gambling Commission has said it is "fully engaging" with the government's independent review into the collapse of Football Index as the industry regulator issued an update on developments on Tuesday.

There has been criticism of the Gambling Commission for not acting sooner over warnings about Football Index's business model, with estimates that its customers have lost up to £90 million after it went into administration in March.

Ministers have appointed Malcolm Sheehan QC to lead the independent review, which will include an investigation into whether the Gambling Commission and other bodies could have done anything differently and whether that could have prevented the product from being offered in the form that it was and avoided Football Index's collapse.
