Top-level winners from Britain, Ireland, France, Japan and Germany were among 78 entries revealed on Wednesday for the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on Sunday, October 5.

Kalpana, the 12-1 ante-post joint-favourite for Andrew Balding and Juddmonte, is among 27 hopefuls trained in Britain with leading older star Economics and 2,000 Guineas hero Ruling Court among them, but there was no entry for 1,000 Guineas winner and ante-post joint-favourite Desert Flower.

The early closing entries have slightly less importance this year due to France Galop creating a win and you're in series, giving the winners of eight races including the Prix du Jockey Club, Prix de Diane and three races on the Arc trials card, a free supplementary entry worth €120,000 or a refund of entry fees.

No trainer has more entries in the race than Aidan O'Brien and five of his eight early contenders are three-year-olds, including Derby favourite The Lion In Winter, Delacroix and Twain. Superstar stayer Kyprios was not entered, but last year's third Los Angeles is among the older horse challenge.

Charlie Appleby has just two entries with his Classic hero Ruling Court joined by Ancient Wisdom. Desert Flower was not among the entries despite being a 12-1 joint-favourite.

Ralph Beckett won the Arc last season with Bluestocking and has five entries headed by You Got To Me and exciting three-year-olds Starzintheireyes and Stanhope Gardens. Doha, the daughter of two-time Arc winner Treve, was also given an entry.

Sir Mark Prescott memorably claimed the 2022 Arc with Alpinista and has Tasmania and Tiffancy among the early entries.

The Wertheimer Et Frere pair Aventure and Sosie, who finished second and fourth last season, could also return to Longchamp, while French 1,000 Guineas winner Zarigana is among the strong home challenge.

There are six Japanese hopefuls including Shin Emperor, who was sent off a 10-1 chance last season before finishing down the field.
