Catherine Macrae sits down with Cieren Fallon to discuss his best season and a big hope for Champions Day

There is no getting away from racing in Newmarket. 

The traffic-filled High Street may be home to clothes shops, cafes and supermarkets but there is an inescapable understanding that everyone there has some thread tying them to the turf. Privacy is somewhat hard to come by as a result, but being known on the grapevine does have some benefits, such as a jockey being able to phone a restaurant late one evening and persuade them to let him in early the next day. 

The Italian restaurant Unico, nestled between an estate agent and a corner shop, will be much busier come this evening. The dining area decked with yucca plants and soft-backed seats is a popular spot for racing folk, and is due to be the after-party destination for many toasting the end of the yearling sales already under way half a mile away.
