Davy Russell suffers only soft tissue injury and bruising in Roscommon fall

Davy Russell is expecting to be out of action for only a few days following a fall at Roscommon on Tuesday.

Ireland's champion jockey, who went to Tullamore Hospital for x-rays for a suspected fractured tibia, said yesterday: "Luckily there was no fracture and we're talking about soft tissue injury and bruising.

"It's sore and I can't put a boot on the leg today, but I'll know more in a day or two and should be back quite soon."

Russell was riding the Gordon Elliott-trained Crack Of Thunder in a handicap chase when his mount fell four out.

Russell has another big date next week when he is due to captain his team against a side managed by Jim Bolger in the seventh annual Hurling for Cancer Research match in St Conleth's Park, Newbridge on Tuesday.
