No jump racing on Wednesday as Huntingdon is forced to cancel due to a waterlogged track

Huntingdon's seven-race jumps fixture on Wednesday has been cancelled due to parts of the course being under water as a result of the nearby river bursting its banks.

An inspection was held shortly after 8am on Monday following 10mm of rainfall on Sunday, but with the track waterlogged and more rain to come before racing, clerk of the course Roderick Duncan was left with no choice but the cancel the meeting.

He said: "We weren't expecting to flood overnight but we had a flood warning late on and I presume we've had more rain to the west of us, which has pushed the levels up.

"We have parts of the track under water and we've got a lot of rain forecast for the next 48 hours, so the situation was only going to get worse. We've just got to get ready for our next meeting on January 12."

It now means there will be no jumps meetings on Wednesday after Ffos Las's card was cancelled due to a waterlogged track. The only action comes on the all-weather at Kempton in the evening.

Hereford will inspect at 9am on Wednesday for its Thursday fixture. The track is expecting between 3-6mm of rain overnight, with a further 2-4mm on Wednesday amid sunnier weather. There is standing water on the track due to the brook near the car park bursting its banks.

"The going remains good to soft, soft in places," clerk of the course John Holliday said. "The issue is we've had 20mm since midnight and the River Ayles passes under the racecourse and exits at the cathedral end of the course.

"In another mile or so it gets to the River Wye, which has flooded and therefore overflowed at the car park end of the track. If the floodwater disperses we'll be able to go ahead. I'm fairly optimistic at the moment but I'll have a better idea in the morning."

Seven-race all-weather fixtures on the Flat at Lingfield and Newcastle complement the jumps action.
