Stradivarius moved closer to a long-awaited rematch with Trueshan after he was confirmed on target for the Qatar Prix du Cadran following a morning workout in Newmarket.

The seven-year-old, who broke the record for Group race wins by a horse trained in Europe when landing the Doncaster Cup this month, worked over a mile on the Limekilns long gallop under Frankie Dettori before his first tilt at Saturday's 2m4f Group 1 contest.

Joint-trainer John Gosden said: "It was good to get Stradivarius on some nice ground this morning and he went well with a lead horse. The plan is to take him to the Prix Cadran which, if you like, is the French version of the Ascot Gold Cup.

"I'm sure the likes of Trueshan will be there on Saturday and it's shaping up to be a good race."

Ground conditions have prevented Stradivarius, the dominant stayer in Europe for the past three years, from meeting Trueshan this season, with the duo last clashing on Champions Day at Ascot in October when Trueshan captured the Long Distance Cup.

The five-year-old has since gone on to win at Group 1 level in the Goodwood Cup, a race Stradivarius missed due to the going. Trainer Alan King is expected to make a decision on whether Trueshan runs and who rides him on Wednesday.

Neither Stradivarius nor Trueshan head the market for the Prix du Cadran, with last year's winner Princess Zoe the 2-1 favourite from that pair at 9-4.
