Affordability checks could affect 'vast' numbers if set too low, warns Flutter

"Vast" numbers of people could be affected if affordability checks are set at too low a level, a senior figure at gambling giant Flutter Entertainment has warned.

Ian Proctor, executive chairman of Flutter's UK and Irish division, said the firm's modelling showed that racing's fears of the financial impact from such checks were not misplaced.

However, Proctor said Flutter, parent company of Paddy Power, Sky Bet and Betfair, believed that backstops were still needed as part of an affordability "triple step" framework it had outlined to the Gambling Commission and would be submitting to the government's review of the Gambling Act.
