20-1 chance Ghaiyyath set to miss Derby assignment

Ghaiyyath, who was ruled out of the Dante Stakes last week with a setback, is set to miss the Investec Derby, trainer Charlie Appleby has revealed.

The Godolphin colt won the Group 3 Autumn Stakes at Newmarket last year and had been a general 20-1 shot for the Epsom Classic on the back of that effort.
However, Appleby warned punters that Ghaiyyath will almost certainly miss the Derby now and that Royal Ascot was the new target.

He said: "He was under veterinary supervision over the weekend and is now sound, but we won't be able to get a trial into him so he is very unlikely to run in the Derby.
He added: "The likelihood is we'll be looking towards Ascot."
