A six-and-a-half-length defeat over course and distance last time doesn’t tell the whole story when it comes to Replenish’s performance.

Drawn one from the outside in a field of 13, James Fanshawe’s colt stuggled in vain to find cover. Yet despite racing on the outer, he stuck on okay when it looked like he might drop right out.

Although he lost for the first time in four starts on the all-weather, and the race was won impressively by the reopposing Dommersen, this relatively lightly raced three-year-old gave the impression he would be worth another chance.

He is much better drawn this time and the booking of George Wood, who claims 5lb, means he is, in effect, racing off only 2lb higher than when winning well at Newcastle two starts ago.
