Nap of the day: the best horse racing tips from the day's five meetings on Tuesday, October 7

Brighton

3.45: The Dark Baron

Steely Dan has shown nothing so far, but is well bred and the market could be interesting on this switch to a handicap. Drying ground would bring Irezumi and Silk And Steel (second choice) into the equation, but The Dark Baron (nap) did it well when getting off the mark at Bath last month and is taken to follow up.

Galway

4.50: Inthenickoftime

A clear second last time back hurdling and nearly a winner the run before over fences, Inthenickoftime looks the solid option. Finnians Row is running well and latest effort can be upgraded. Andyourbirdcansing is third choice.

Huntingdon

3.37: Pep Talking

Cases can be made for all six runners but the verdict goes to Pep Talking (nap), who made excellent progress for Billy Aprahamian last season and bumped into a big improver when second on his latest outing in May. Catchim will be dangerous if able to replicate the form he showed at Haydock in April and is second choice ahead of Jackpot Cash, who enjoyed a productive spell for James Owen in the first half of this year.

Leicester

5.02: Warrant Holder

The intriguing runner is Warrant Holder (nap) who beat none other than St Leger runner-up Rahiebb in winning his novice, and the horse he conceded 7lb to at Newmarket after a lengthy break was a well-backed Godolphin three-year-oldwho could turn out to be pretty good. This Frankel colt has the potential to be very well handicapped off 90. Hopewell Rock is raised in distance, like the selection, and he's still improving judged on his Doncaster run. Spinning Wheel and Sovereign Sea are others to consider in a competitive race.

Southwell

7.30: Universal Story

The four-year-old filly Universal Story (nap) is showing good progress for her new stable and could well complete a hat-trick. Alfie D, who looks interesting upped further in trip, is second choice. Market confidence behind long-absent Tamaris should be heeded.
