Nap of the day: the best horse racing tips from the day's seven meetings on Thursday, October 16

Brighton

1.45: State Of Madness

Having comfortably justified strong support over C&D last week on his debut for Charlie Clover, State Of Madness appears well up to defying a 5lb penalty. Fai Fai, who ran creditably in that contest and finished second in this race 12 months ago, is next on the shortlist. Roman Spring and Grovely Belle look solid to make the frame.

Carlisle

4.15: Alshadhian

Alshadhian has made a promising start to his chasing career this season and has shown signs this step back up in trip will be a positive move. Realisation could get back on track following a break and wind surgery and she may be the main threat ahead of Hello Judge, who loves it here. Got Your Back is an interesting chasing newcomer.

Chelmsford

6.15: Giant

Preference is for Giant who has form figures of 112 at this track and that latest second was behind a major improver in a Class 4 over C&D last week. Mister Mojito had an excuse in a muddling race at Newcastle last time and could pose a big threat if he can recapture the form of his close third here on his penultimate run. Kitaro Kich is 2lb well in off the same mark as for his recent second at Kempton, but he was due to run there on Wednesday night.

Curragh

1.15: Ardad Ned

Once in the clear, Ardad Ned ran on well to take third at Navan and can score here with normal improvement. The extra furlong should help The Shandyman who failed to justify market confidence first time out in a 7f maiden at Naas. Acclamatic has the advantage of experience but will need to raise his game to get his head in front.

2.05: Mini Fortune

Winning Irish pointer Roe And Co is very unexposed under rules and looks interesting on this chase/handicap debut but Mini Fortune posted a good effort when third at Uttoxeter 11 days ago and, effectively 2lb lower here, she is selected to open her rules account. Radharc Na Slaine is next on the list.

Southwell

4.55: Captain Parma

Lightly raced James Owen 4yo Captain Parma looks likely to be winning soon based on his recent Chelmsford near miss. Tattie Bogle's good Tapeta record makes him a likely threat, while the handicapper has given Highland Olly a chance on AW (dropped 5lb for last time) and it might be a bit premature to suggest he won't prove fully effective on an artificial surface after only three attempts, one of which was a maiden early in his career.

Thurles

3.22: Nelson Muntz

The two of interest here are recent Killarney second and third, Tassarolo and Nelson Muntz. The former finished over four lengths in front that day, but a return to a right-handed track and the increase in distance of this race can help the selection overturn the deficit. Tatateo may be capable of getting involved if jumping better. Denis Harney
