In the good old days, I could text a mate and tell him I was heading off on an AI for an AI in Goa after going AI on a successful game of HSP, and he would know exactly what I meant. Halcyon days indeed.
In the year 2025, though, I have got to laboriously text that I am heading off on an Air India for an all-inclusive in Goa after going all-in on a successful game of high-stakes poker – because the abbreviation AI has been almost entirely hijacked by 'artificial intelligence'. AI is rampant and AI can mean only one thing in this day and age.
If you go into a modern pharmacy with a swollen knee and ask for an AI tablet, you have got more chance of being presented with a fancy iPad than some anti-inflammatory pills. And it can't be long before a hospital consultant prescribes some AI (artificial insemination) for an aspirant mother who is struggling to get pregnant, only for an earwigging randy robot to come barging into the treatment room uninvited.
