United States Grand Prix sprint predictions
The scene is set for an entertaining sprint race at the United States Grand Prix after title contenders Max Verstappen, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri filled the first three places in sprint qualifying on Friday night.
The overall picture is good for the McLaren pair, who will lose only one and two points to the world champion even if they can't improve on their current positions and he wins the 19-lap event at the Circuit of the Americas.
The early signs were promising for the British team too, as Norris topped the times in practice only to be pipped by 0.071 seconds on his final qualifying run.
There is the potential for shenanigans between the principals at a track where Norris was demoted from third to fourth in last season's grand prix for overtaking Verstappen off the track. Verstappen is 4-6 favourite for the sprint, ahead of 9-4 Norris and 6-1 Piastri , and at the prices there is no real incentive to have an outright wager.
The pole-sitter has won at only one of the three sprint races this season, when Lewis Hamilton was successful for Ferrari in China. Kimi Antonelli was on pole for the wet sprint in Miami that was won by Norris from third on the grid, while Verstappen took sprint glory in Belgium from second on the grid, edging out pole-sitter Piastri.
Nico Hulkenberg was an impressive fourth in qualifying for Sauber, but he could struggle to keep the Mercedes of Singapore race winner George Russell behind him and the British driver, fifth on the grid, is worth backing at evens with bet365 to finish as best of the rest in fourth place.
