William Hill Scottish Premiership predictions

It is back to business for Celtic after their 17-point triumph in last season's William Hill Scottish Premiership, but opening opponents St Mirren will fancy they are capable of finding the net when they travel to Parkhead.

Bookmakers anticipate an easy ride for Brendan Rodgers' champions against the Buddies, but that was also the case on the closing day of last term when the Bhoys needed an injury-time James Forrest goal to earn them a 1-1 draw against these opponents.

The trophy was already housed in the Celtic Park cabinet by then and the champions will surely be more focused in their first game of the campaign than they were at the end of last term, but St Mirren are no pushovers these days and can make their mark.

Having secured their third successive top-six finish last term, Saints won 2-0 at Rangers before the split and netted in six of their final seven away matches, so while Celtic should reward favourite-backers, it is worth adding the both-teams-to-score element, especially as they kept just one clean sheet in their final five games of last term.

Motivation levels were different then, but the Buddies have more to play for too and are unlikely to sit back.

The same is also true in Sunday's earlier clash when Falkirk, playing their first top-flight game since 2010 after successive promotions, will entertain Dundee United.

The Bairns have scored 14 goals in four League Cup games as they have warmed up for their Premiership return, while United have have got through two legs against UNA Strassen to make the next qualifying round of the Conference League.

The visitors claimed fourth spot last season after gaining promotion, providing a great model for Falkirk to follow, and this is the sort of game both will feel they need to win to realise similar ambitions this term.

Six of Falkirk's last seven games have featured at least three goals and this clash could follow that pattern.
