Linda Blackford enjoyed her first winner under rules in more than two years when Rangatira Jack defied top weight in the 2m3f novice handicap chase.

Bryan Carver’s mount gained a deserved success after some promising efforts over fences and scored by six lengths.

Blackford, who trains in Devon, has five horses to run under rules and was last successful with Prince Rhinegold, who was also ridden by Carver, in a novice hurdle at the same track in February 2023.

The trainer, who saddled runners in hunter chases and then with a rules licence since 1993, said: "I'm over the moon with him. He was always going to be better over fences and continues to improve. He's only just growing into himself and there's definitely more to come.

"I still enjoy training, ride out every day and love what I'm doing with our hardworking team. It's not getting any easier for the small yards and winners are hard to come by but when we beat the big boys it makes it all worthwhile."

Feature success

A Definite Getaway justified odds-on favouritism in the feature 3m handicap chase.

James Bowen’s mount, who is trained by the rider’s brother Mickey and father Peter, continued his good form following a break with a straightforward nine-and-a-half-length success.

Dreams delivers

Seeyouinmydreams looks a mare to follow through the summer following her victory in the 2m handicap hurdle.

The Paul Nicholls-trained seven-year-old gained a third win from her last four starts when scoring by four lengths under Harry Cobden on her first start since October.
