'What a day to be alive' - Beset lands fillies' handicap on first start for Joseph O'Brien

Beset got a dream run up the inside before staying on late to land the 1m2½f fillies' handicap on her stable debut for Joseph O’Brien, winning by a length and a quarter at odds of 15-2.
The daughter of Expert Eye is owned by a four-strong group who also own Chelmsford Listed winner Lady With The Lamp, who holds a Commonwealth Cup entry at Royal Ascot.
Michael Wilson, one of Beset’s part-owners alongside familiar names from television Kevin Blake and Nick Luck as well as Emma Palmer, the owner of successful jumpers Le Breuil and Samuel Spade, was full of praise for the setting.
He said: “This is my first time at Sligo and it looks fantastic. The crowd is amazing and there is such a buzz here. What a day to be alive.”
Smile strikes
You Make Me Smile took the 1m5½f apprentice handicap in fine style under Keithen Kennedy at odds of 15-2.
The Pat Fahy-trained mare was making it back-to-back wins – albeit under different codes – having scored in a mares' handicap hurdle at Clonmel on her previous outing.
The seven-year-old is part-owned by singer Ryan Hennessy, a Sligo native who had a gig to get to after racing. He said: "It’s great to win at our local track – it’s like winning at Cheltenham for us."
