Ed Dunlop celebrated his fourth juvenile winner in a week when Sierra Sands battled home to score at the third time of asking in the 7f restricted maiden on the matinee card.

The 6-5 favourite was always just off the pace set by eventual second Mystical Eye before taking command close home to win cosily under Eddy Greatrex.

The son of Sands Of Mali had the best form having finished second on his debut at Leicester before running into a smart one in Castle Rock at Newmarket a fortnight ago.

Dunlop said: "Sierra Sands won nicely and he has plenty of scope, so we'll put him away for next year after that. He's owned by a great bunch known as the Stormtroopers and that's our fourth two-year-old winner from our last five runners, so we're having a great end to the season. Hopefully, we're not done yet."

Greatrex later doubled up when Lexington Blitz landed the Catterick Dash for Newmarket trainer Robert Cowell.

Bollin back for more

Jake Dickson's 8lb allowance made the difference in the opening 1m6f apprentice handicap, a race his mount Bollin Neil was winning for the second time – five years after his first.

The nine-year-old also finished second in the race in 2021 and 2022 and made all to win again for Dickson, who was scoring for his boss Tim Easterby.

Bollin Neil was supplementing his previous win at the North Yorkshire track when making all to see off the gambled-on Trapper John to give Dickson his seventh victory.

Easterby later doubled up when U Sure Do landed a gamble in division two of the 7f handicap.

Early start a winner

Punters who got up early for the meeting's 10.30am start were rewarded with the first three favourites winning and then treated to an impressive show from Fouroneohfever in the 1m4f handicap.

George Boughey's topweight was not unfancied when winning under apprentice Tommy Jakes at 11-2.
