'She's a very good mare and still fairly well in' - Finest View backs up recent success with another smooth win

Finest View made it two wins from just four starts over fences with a polished effort in the 2m1½f handicap chase.

The eight-year-old mare has always been highly regarded and was tried at Grade 2 level in bumpers and over hurdles. She reached a mark of 131 over the smaller obstacles at one stage and showed how well handicapped she was by pulling seven and a half lengths clear of God's Own Getaway under Tom Cannon.

The 11-10 favourite was following up a length victory at Huntingdon last month off a 3lb higher mark and made it eight wins from 27 career starts in the process.

"She looked to do it well," said winning trainer Alan King, who also saddled Westerton to finish a pleasing third at Epsom.

"I know we won at Huntingdon but she is better going left-handed. I think she's got her confidence back – it looked very smooth.

"She's a very good mare. She won four on the bounce and got a very nasty colic after running at Cartmel in 2022. It's taken her a long time to recover from that and she went somewhere else for a season, but on her old rating she's still fairly well in."

McCain double

Donald McCain enjoyed a double at his local track with Solent Gateway in the 2m½f maiden hurdle and Sovereign Star in the 2m4½f novice handicap chase. Both winners scored in cosy style under Brian Hughes and Theo Gillard respectively.
