Sheena West's return to form continues as Mr Freedom wins again

Mr Freedom's impressive juvenile success was fitting reward for Sheena West as the yard maintained its upswing after a difficult time last season.

The trainer claimed just one success over jumps in nine months following a virus at her yard last October, and West was thrilled by the return to form as her three-year-old claimed his second win this month by four lengths.

"Last season we had a virus and went months without a winner, it was absolutely gutting," she said. "Yet we stuck together and believed there was a reward at the end of it, and we're having a fantastic end to this year.

"It's not huge numbers but we're only a small yard with mostly dual-purpose horses. It's difficult when they're all ill but it's so rewarding when they're not."

The win marked the third success in five years for West in the 2m1½f contest, with the trainer also taking the race in 2018 and 2019.

The winner will now be aimed at Kempton on October 16, but West is keen to try the gelding on the Flat next summer.

"You'd have to say he'd win again at some point but time will tell," she said. "We'll look at Kempton next month. The better ones will be out by then, so we'll find out if he's any good or not."

See The Sea made a winning return to hurdles to land the feature handicap under Peter Kavanagh.

The Donald McCain-trained mare scored by a length to land the 2m hurdle – won last year by subsequent Betfair Hurdle winner Glory And Fortune – in her first start over jumps since May.
