O’Faolains Glory brought her year to a close in style at her favourite venue, landing successive victories at Musselburgh.
The latest victory came in the 2m4½f handicap chase, in which the experienced mare produced a fluent round of jumping before pulling clear on the run-in by five lengths from Carcaci Castle.
Trained by Susan Corbett at Otterburn, in Northumberland, the eight-year-old was ridden by 5lb claimer Conor Rabbitt for both victories, this time defying a 4lb higher mark.
“She’s been an absolute superstar for the Girsonfield Racing Club,” said Corbett. “She only cost £4,000 a year ago and she’s been brilliant – a great win today round her favourite track.”
Corbett now faces a decision over where her mare could head next. She told Racing TV: “She has qualified for the Go North finals over two miles and two and a half over fences, but those chases are at Carlisle and she loves Musselburgh. She could go back hurdling and try to qualify for the Go North finals here.
“She’s a brilliant jumper and I don’t think she minds whether it’s fences or hurdles. The Go North series is great for northern trainers, it’s an excellent initiative.”
Resilient Reflection
The judge was required to decide the winner in the 3m handicap hurdle, with 14-1 chance Reflection Of You awarded the verdict by a nose from Lizzie Luna.
The latter was a long-time leader and briefly lost the advantage in the closing stages, but rallied, only to be held off by the Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore-trained winner.
