Oisin Murphy continues sensational form with second treble in two days

Oisin Murphy made it back-to-back trebles as he followed Wednesday’s 129-1 three-timer at Lingfield with a 33-1 treble.

Murphy, who recently praised agent Gavin Horne for his role in finding winning rides, had not ridden any of his mounts on a racecourse before today.

Murphy began the day by narrowly winning the seller aboard Merry Secret, before taking the feature mile handicap with the progressive Marsabit who was winning for the third time in four starts this year.

Murphy completed another good day’s work, guiding Godolphin’s Marching Army to a first win in the 1m2f novice stakes for Saeed bin Suroor.

Speaking to Racing TV about his recent form, Murphy said: "Every winner counts and I’m doing my best to keep the pressure on. The last few days have been great and the stables I’m riding for are flying along."

The champion jockey and title-race leader is operating at a 30 per cent strike-rate over the last two weeks and is excited about the prospect of more winners at Newbury in the coming days.

"I am looking forward to the weekend with some nice horses to get on at Newbury. Every day is competitive and tough but with the horses I’m riding, I have great chances."

Worthwhile trip

William Buick highlighted the relentless nature of the jockeys' championship as he dashed across the channel, fresh from Hurricane Lane’s devastating Grand Prix de Paris success last night.

Buick will have felt vindicated as he steered the Charlie Hills-trained The Attorney to victory in the 7f handicap before combining with in-form Tony Carroll to double up on the day with Eastern Star.

Kirby injured

Adam Kirby was stood down by the racecourse medic as a precautionary measure after banging his wrist when finishing last of nine runners on Adatorio in the opening 7f handicap. Nick Adams, Kirby’s agent, confirmed that the Derby-winning rider expects to be riding on Friday.
