Sir Gerhard, Envoi Allen, Samcro and Don Cossack are just some of the star names that have won the Listed Future Champions Flat Race, but not many were as impressive as the Tom Cleary-trained Oh My Word, who cleared away in the style of a potential star under Derek O'Connor.

The son of Poet's Word defied a starting price of 33-1 to win over course and distance on debut last month but was far more fancied in the market this time, going off an 11-4 chance in the four-runner field.

He raced exuberantly in the early stages but was still full of running two furlongs out before darting 11 lengths clear once O'Connor pushed the button.

Paddy Power reacted by cutting him into 20-1 (from 40) for the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham on March 11.

"He got a little bit keen early but I was fully at fault," the winning rider told Racing TV. "I went past Finny [Maguire on Passenger] and it lit him up a bit. I was anxious it was a true run race and I had the best horse, so I probably lit him up a bit too early. He did exceptionally well to finish the way he did."

Lucrative day

Martin Hassett and 5lb claimer Liam McKenna combined for a 160-1 quickfire double when Battle Of Ridgeway was rewarded for consistency in the 2m handicap chase before Soloman Lane showed plenty of resolution to fend off the closers in the 2m4½f handicap chase 35 minutes later.

They were the only two runners on the card for the Tipperary stable, with Battle Of Ridgeway gaining a deserved second win over fences, having been placed on his previous three runs. Last seen finishing third at Cheltenham behind Triple Trade, the 6-1 chance travelled with his usual zest en route to a cosy three-and-a-half-length success over 2-1 favourite May Call You Back.

McKenna completed his first double on board 22-1 shot Soloman Lane, who jumped the last with a commanding advantage before being made to sweat as both Bridie's Beau and Binge Worthy began to charge home.

But the ten-year-old dug deep to prevail by a head to give Hassett his fifth winner of the jumps season and propel his strike-rate up to 31 per cent.
