My Gift To You back to his best under the in-form Alex Chadwick to initiate James Owen double

My Gift To You made an impressive return to the winner’s enclosure after three thirds and one second since his last victory.
The James Owen-trained seven-year-old successfully dropped down in trip in the 2m7f handicap chase under Alex Chadwick. The jockey, who has been in fantastic form himself, made it four wins from his last six rides and took his career total to 47.
Chadwick has won on the winner as a 7lb, 5lb and now 3lb claimer, and said: “It’s going really well, but it’s credit to the horse, he just hasn’t got a bad run in him. He’s probably doing a little bit too much early in the race and I think that actually helps him. He likes to take the mickey and I definitely think the visor has played dividends in him winning today.”
Owen also struck in the 2m4f novice handicap hurdle as Sixty Plus ran out an emphatic 20-length winner under Sam Twiston-Davies, backing up his eight-length success at the track just last week.
The Richard Newland and Jamie Insole-trained Dreamweaver fell in the same race and conditional jockey Oliver Boyden was airlifted from the racecourse as a precaution. He was slow to get up but was talking and conscious in the ambulance. The horse was on his feet and the final race was delayed by 15 minutes.
Grey digs deep
Grey Skies made all to win for the first time since April 2023, with the 12-1 shot fending off a late challenge from favourite Scintillante in the 2m handicap hurdle.
It was a masterful ride from Brian Hughes, who looked likely to be caught in the final furlong, but he got his mount to dig deep and secure victory for trainer Donald McCain.
