It is a rare sight to see a Donald McCain-trained horse make the long journey to rural Norfolk, let alone be his only representative on the day across the cards, but the trainer's smart placing with Gaelik Coast was rewarded in dramatic style in the 2m½f novice chase.

The six-year-old travelled powerfully under Brian Hughes and drew up alongside Timetochill and Mick Pastor as the three jumped the final fence in tandem.

The latter crashed out and it looked like Timetochill had secured the race, but the champion jockey galvanised his mount to win by a head and make the trip from McCain's Cheshire base worthwhile.
