A colleague said afterwards that Cubomania was "very much a Gordon type of horse".

It's not hard to see what he means. A horse who won a handicap hurdle off a mark of 95 last season has been turned inside-out over fences by Elliott this campaign and while his victory in the feature Listed novice chase had a shade of good fortune about it, it was still his fifth and most significant of the season.

The son of Halling is a quality jumper which proved the winning of this race. With market leaders Jetz and Duca De Thaix well beaten, Davy Russell's mount was headed by the underestimated Benruben coming to the last, but the latter's mistake caused him to crumple on landing over the last and leave Cubomania clear.
