Jasmin De Vaux provided Willie Mullins with a fourth successive winner on the final day of the festival when landing the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle at 6-1 under Paul Townend.

Winner of the Champion Bumper 12 months ago, the six-year-old stayed on strongly to deny 9-2 favourite The Big Westerner by two and a half lengths and give Townend a double on the day.

Jasmin De Vaux travelled well throughout and quickened after the final flight to hand Mullins his tenth victory of the week. An accumulator on Mullins' final day four-timer returned odds of 7069-1.

The Lucinda Russell-trained Derryhassen Paddy, who received plenty of support before the race, contested the lead for large parts of the contest and stayed on to finish third.

Yellow Car and Wendigo, who was badly hampered at the second-last before rallying under Gavin Sheehan, were fourth and fifth respectively.

What the winning trainer said

Willie Mullins: "It did surprise me how well he was travelling. Seeing him sit last in the early part of the race I wondered whether he could come from that far back, but Paul gave him a very confident ride. That's the sort of frame of mind Paul is in at the moment. He made things happen for him. We know he has an engine, it's just about getting him from A to B. Going that bit slower over a trip has made a difference. He might even jump fences better than hurdles, but we'll see. He'll probably go novice chasing next season."

What the winning rider said

Paul Townend: "It's been a trying week. We've had plenty of runners and this lad takes a bit of warming up, but he's a classy horse and he showed that here last year. I thought it was a huge pick from Patrick [Mullins] and I said that if he picked him last year I couldn't leave him behind this year. A lot of it is just confidence with him and getting into a rhythm. I thought there'd be plenty going forward."
