'I'm not one to bring horses to make up the numbers' - Kevin Ryan unsurprised by 100-1 second for Ain't Nobody in Nunthorpe

In a year of long-priced winners in top sprints, it should perhaps be no surprise that a 100-1 shot should lead home the British team in the Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes.
There was certainly no shock in Kevin Ryan's face as he welcomed back Ain't Nobody after the three-year-old had gone down by just a length and a quarter to Asfoora.
His outsider has not won a race since the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot last season but the trainer stressed: "I'm not one to bring horses to make up the numbers. I never have done it and never will. This is not about being proved right, it's having faith in the horse.
"I told the owners he was in great form and I said we were going to ride him cold, they're going to go hard here. We'd ride him like when he won at Royal Ascot. It's worked out a treat."

Jockey Kevin Stott, reunited this year with a trainer for whom he won the Diamond Jubilee Stakes on Hello Youmzain in 2020, said: "Everyone knows how good Kevin Ryan is with these sprinters. He's got this horse right back to form with the cheekpieces on.
"We dropped him back to five furlongs and we know he's got plenty of speed. We were a little bit outpaced in the first couple of furlongs, but they did go quick. I gave him a bit of room and he absolutely flew home."
King Charles III Stakes second Frost At Dawn was just a nose away in third and trainer William Knight said: "She's a star. She's had plenty of seconds and now a third, but how can you complain? I'd just love to find that win at this level."
Karl Burke reckoned fourth-placed Night Raider had run his best race on turf and said: "When everything goes smoothly for him and he's relaxed in the prelims and at the start, he's a horse with a lot of natural ability."
