'He's all speed' - Cox excited for next season as Kerdos follows up in style

Sprinters are Clive Cox's speciality and Kerdos emerged as the latest exciting speedy type for the Lambourn trainer following a smart win in the 6f novice stakes.

The two-year-old was giving weight all round having won on his debut at Haydock, yet made a big enough impression to go off at odds of 1-2.

Adam Kirby needed to urge him along midway through the race, but Kerdos found plenty in the closing stages to strike by two lengths.

He is unlikely to run again this season but Cox sees resemblance between him and sire Profitable, who won at Group 1 level for the stable in the 2016 King's Stand Stakes over five furlongs.

"Kerdos coped with the penalty really well and looks a progressive horse," the trainer said. "He's taken his time to come to hand but I couldn't be more pleased with the way he's dealt with his first two outings.

"We'll see how he comes back but we can be pleased that he's a really nice horse going into next season. He's all speed, a lot like his Dad, and I'd expect him to remain at sprint distances."

Owen on course

A trip to the races was justified for Michael Owen as the Hugo Palmer-trained Reward Smile won the 6f nursery.

The two-year-old, who is trained by Palmer at the ex-pro's Manor House Stables, finished half a length clear of The Big Board to register a first career victory.

Winning return

Seamus Durack saddled his first winner since April when
Twilight Heir struck in the 6f handicap under Cieren Fallon.
