'He's a nice horse' - Commonwealth Cup type Strong Warrior makes it two from two with pleasing performance

Richard Fahey and Sheikh Rashid Dalmook Al Maktoum could have another Commonwealth Cup horse on their hands in Strong Warrior

The trainer and owner landed the three-year-old sprint at Royal Ascot with Perfect Power in 2022 and their latest hot prospect enhanced his claims for the same race with victory in the 6f novice.

Strong Warrior had won cosily at Ayr as a juvenile and picked up where he left off with a straightforward performance, making all and bravely holding off the late challenge of fellow winner Veblen Good by a head to justify 8-13 favouritism.

"He would have needed it today," winning rider Oisin Orr told Racing TV. "He's obviously going to come on from it and he wasn't doing an awful lot in the last furlong, he had his ears pricked. We think he's a nice horse.

"We probably ended up having to work for it all the way around because David Allan's horse [U Sure Do] ended up taking me on and we were going a good, honest gallop. His ability got him through."

The race has a history of producing decent performers as the dual Group 3 winner Spycatcher, who landed the Cammidge Trophy at Doncaster last month, won the first division in 2021.

Seven scores

Fahrenheit Seven mowed down Dream Composer in the dying strides to land the £30,000 5f handicap for Connor Beasley and Mark Usher. It was another winner for the rider, who enjoyed a big-race double on Saturday's Dubai World Cup card at Meydan.
