Speed king David Evans finally got the Listed Hever Sprint Stakes on his CV when Gracious John made all to hold the late flourish of Encore D'Or in the 5f contest.

The Welsh trainer has won almost everything else over five and six furlongs on the all-weather but this race has eluded him.

The first and second were at the business end from flagfall and it was Gracious John that had enough in the tank to hold on by a short head in a driving finish.
