Much has changed since the Stewards' Cup was born 180 years ago. The view has not.

Look out across Goodwood racecourse and as far as the eye can reach there is nothing but loveliness, a picture of England just waiting to be painted. Direct your gaze beyond the track and there is not a building to be seen. For the first time since the great sprint's introduction in 1840, there was not a paying spectator to be seen, either.

There should have been. There really should have been.
