Jamie Spencer had an eventful afternoon as he rode his first winners in 28 days.

The 41-year-old ended a frustrating spell as he guided the 12-1 Follow Your Heart to victory in the 5½f handicap for Kevin Ryan.

Spencer had already been in the stewards' room after passing the post in second aboard odds-on favourite Monsieur Jumbo in the 6f maiden for the same connections.

Monsieur Jumbo was demoted to third place with Grifter placed second behind Miss Calculation, who was a striking winner on her debut. Spencer was cautioned for careless riding after being adjudged to have impeded Grifter.

Spencer did not dwell on the outcome of the hearing, with Ryan providing the jockey with a winner on his 52nd ride since steering the Nick Gifford-trained Didtheyleaveyououtto to victory at Nottingham on June 10.

"Jamie's ridden loads of winners for me over the years so we’re delighted with him," said the trainer. "Every time we can get him, we try and use him."

Spencer completed a double on the David Simcock-trained Deep Sigh in the mile fillies' handicap.

Spencer was handed a two-day ban for using his whip above the permitted level when guiding the filly to a maiden success on her sixth start.

Simcock said: "Jamie rode her at home last week and was keen to ride her today. He gave her a good ride. She's a filly who has taken a little while to come to herself this year, but she showed a great attitude and she'll go on improving now."

Asjad makes it two in a row

The Roger Varian-trained Asjad followed up a debut win at Salisbury with a comfortable success in the 6f novice contest under Eoin Walsh.

The Shadwell-owned three-year-old justified odds-on favouritism to win by two and a half lengths from Adaay To Remember.
