Eric McNamara and Eoin McCarthy land Listed honours as local trainers come to the fore

Both Listed races at Limerick went to local trainers as Eric McNamara saddled Millstream Lady to success in the Cailin Alainn Mares Hurdle before Eoin McCarthy continued his fine campaign by sending out the progressive Shadow Paddy to land the Tote Guarantee Novice Hurdle.
Millstream Lady has taken a big step forward this season, landing a handicap at Killarney in August before finishing third at Listowel last month. Stepping up in grade to Listed company, she went off a 7-2 chance under Sean Flanagan, who had her settled in third of the five runners for much of the 2m7f trip.
The race turned into a battle in the straight between Millstream Lady and World Of Fortunes, but Flanagan's mount took over approaching the last and was always doing enough to hold on by half a length.
"She stays real well," McNamara told Racing TV. "She's only handy but she has some engine. Her mother was a decent mare and the line is still going, so to win a Listed race with her is invaluable really."
McCarthy displayed his talents at the Listowel harvest festival last month when coming away with the leading trainer title after saddling six winners, and the well-backed 5-4 favourite Shadow Paddy gave him a first Listed victory when beating Ballykinlar by three and three-quarter lengths.
Ridden by Simon Torrens, the five-year-old continues to climb the ladder, this being his fourth victory from six starts this year after starting by landing a handicap in May off a mark of 95.
