Duke Of Bronte has a way to go to match Sergeant Cecil in the affections of Rod Millman but he continued to surprise his trainer with his latest big win in the middle-distance heritage handicap.

"It's what keeps you going, finding another Sergeant Cecil, but he has a long way to go to be that," said the Devon trainer when asked the question after the three-year-old had won the £100,000 Appletiser Handicap.

It is a decade ago that Sergeant Cecil worked his way into the public's affections with staying successes in the Ebor, Cesarewitch plus the Lonsdale, Doncaster and Yorkshire Cups.
