Apprentice jockey given ten-day ban for failing to ride out to the finish as mount gets caught on the line

Jockey Alfie Redman was suspended for ten days on Thursday for failing to ride out to the finish after Alright Sunshine was caught on the line by Annandale in the 1m6f apprentice handicap.
The claimer was leading aboard the Mike Murphy-trained ten-year-old heading into the final furlong, with a fast-finishing Annandale making a challenge wide on the track. Redman appeared to ease up just as the line approached and Annandale got up to win by a short head.
The stewards looked into the ride following the race and handed Redman a ten-day ban, which will begin on February 20 and end on March 3. The race was a 'hands and heels' contest, in which the jockeys carried a whip but were not permitted to use it.
The BHA stewards' report said: "Alfie Redman, rider of Alright Sunshine, placed second, had appeared to stop riding shortly before the winning post. Being a 5lb claiming apprentice, Redman was accompanied into the inquiry by a jockey coach.
"After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, Redman was suspended for ten days for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing on a horse that would have finished first."
Redman has ridden two winners, with his first success coming in August last year and his last victory 54 days ago.
Annandale's shock 22-1 success was a first career win for rider Lauren Young at the 23rd attempt.
