Apprentice Jay Mackay enjoys her biggest success with feature-race victory on Mayday Malone for boss Michael Bell

Apprentice Jay Mackay enjoyed her biggest success as she registered the third win of her career in the feature 7f handicap.
Mackay got 12-1 shot Mayday Malone up in the final strides to deny favourite Cosi Bello by a head and break his maiden at the ninth attempt. It was Mackay's fifth ride of the year.
"It was nice to get a winner on my first ride here. It's amazing at Chester," Mackay told Sky Sports Racing.
"The race went well, I wanted to be up the front and that's where he landed. He jumped well and travelled nicely."
Reflecting on her early career, Mackay said: "I started off with Alan Bailey. I was there for a few years and that's where I got my love for racing. Sadly he retired so I went to Jane Chapple-Hyam, I was there for two years and she gave me seven or eight rides.
"Then I decided I was ready for the move. There are more horses at Michael Bell's and he's really supportive of me. I'm happy I made the move."
Double delight
Joe Fanning landed the opening 6f maiden on the Clive Cox-trained Song Of The Clyde and then scored again for Charlie Johnston in the 1m4½f handicap on Ghaiyya.
