David Jennings on an afternoon when the inevitable focus is once again on the champion trainer
Willie Mullins would need eyes in the back of his head to keep track of everything that happens on Easter Sunday and, who knows, maybe he has a spare pair of peepers hidden underneath that trilby of his. It would go a long way towards explaining how he dominates two nations at one time.
The Closutton colossus needs one more victory to edge past Jim Dreaper as the most successful trainer in the history of the WillowWarm Gold Cup (2.22) at Fairyhouse, or the Powers Gold Cup in old money, while Plumpton is the latest stop on his tour de force of Britain.
It certainly came as a surprise to me, so presumably Mullins must have been pleasantly surprised himself, to see the BetGoodwin Sussex Champion Hurdle (4.05) was worth a whopping £75,000. He greeted the shock news by sending an army of four over for the juicy pot and quickly snapping up his new best pal Harry Cobden for Absurde.
